Lunch with Hugh Henry
On November 8, 2017 the Swift Current Chapter held a luncheon at Houston Pizza. The guest speaker was Hugh Henry. He again dazzled us with his exceptional knowledge of the Battleford
Trail. He along with the members of the Saskatchewan History and Folklore Society began a walk from Swift CurrentBattleford Trail which served as a significant trail which linked the two
communities. The walk took 18 days to complete covering 330 kilometers over roads, farmland, prairie pastures, coulees and periodically followed the exact spots of the original Red River Cart
Trail. The journey began from the Battleford Trail Ruts Municipal Heritage Site adjacent to the TransCanada Highway on August 3, 2017.
The Battleford trail was an important part of the early history of the Metis in Saskatchewan. The trail was travelled by the Metis when they were hunting buffalo and also travelling from
Montana to Battleford.
Door prizes were won by Rosalie Flynn, Sharon Veer, Jackie Cameron, Janet Little and Gayle Wesaloskil The 50/50 ticket was won by Clara Loeppky
