RE:  STF Provincial Collective Bargaining Support

As former teachers and given that the STS is organized as a local association of the STF we want to support our active teacher colleagues in their efforts to secure a fair collective bargaining agreement with the provincial government.  As such, we would like to encourage Chapters to consider how they might encourage and support teachers in their area.  Some ideas could include:

• Letters to the editor or columns in local papers
• Chapter representatives being in the media
• Calls to MLAs
• Contacts to SaskParty officials
• Attendance at STF organized event
• Encouragement to active teachers through bringing notes of encouragement, coffee, lunch or other goodies.

The provincial organization is developing a series of Facebook posts intended to distribute information and support bargaining.  Also, additional information regarding the current state of education in our province can be found at: Education in Saskatchewan - Facts and Statistics (stf.sk.ca)

Lastly, members are reminded that during STF sanctions they should not be backfilling duties in schools that are typically done by teachers during approved sanctions.  This might include supervision or teaching duties that are normally performed by teachers in the normal fulfillment of their contractual duties.
